Transforming a Drawing Room: A Navy and Yellow Design Journey

When our client first approached us, she came armed with Pinterest boards brimming with inspiration. Her vision was clear: a navy and yellow palette, with new sofas already chosen in navy and grey.

Step One: Bringing Ideas to Life

Our first move was to arrange an in-store appointment to explore fabrics together. With her style preferences already so well defined, we were able to pre-select a range of options that perfectly aligned with her desired direction.

In just thirty minutes, we finalised the curtain fabric, cushion designs, and a coordinating rug that worked harmoniously with the new sofas, armchairs, and the existing furniture in the space.

We turned to some of our most trusted UK-based fabric houses: Villa Nova, Romo, and Linwood, all family-run businesses that we love working with.

Designer Choices

The curtains were given a classic 6-inch pencil pleat heading and were interlined to give the linen fabric body and warmth. To protect the material and enhance insulation, we added an ivory thermal blackout lining, ensuring light wouldn’t wash out the beautiful pattern.

In a generously sized room with large single-glazed windows, interlining and blackout lining are essential. They not only improve heat retention and reduce draughts but also create a welcoming and cosy atmosphere.

The Finishing Touch: Cushions

Cushions can transform both comfort and style. We selected four patterned fabrics and a plain option, incorporating the curtain fabric into smaller rectangular cushions. Larger patterned cushions broke up the expanse of the plain sofas, whilst reversible designs with plain backs offered flexibility. With deep seating and frequent guests, ample cushions allow everyone to sit comfortably with proper support.

The Result

Our client left her consultation feeling delighted, relieved, and confident in our ability to bring her vision to life. The finished room struck a perfect balance of elegance and comfort.
